on my ps3 i set my privacy, now only friends can message me. i’m not a female so i don’t get this kind of stuff.
 

I’m not female, but I play one in Halo: Reach (and Firefall, and Soul Caliber, and Gears of War 3…). Couple that with sharing an XBL account with my wife, and we get some “great” conversations from some “charming” individuals.

Well, you never know. Maybe he wanted to provide a truly charming sodomy experience. With a nice wine, some sensual oils, smooth jazz and confetti. Some people are just bad at expressing themselves… though I’m guessing this guy isn’t one of those people.

I’m a boy and I got this very same message a while back… I guess it still works.

I’m a female gamer, but I only play single-player games, or multiplayers with trusted friends. Just from this site, I am never, ever touching Xbox Live. Ever. I wouldn’t know what to do with these kinds of messages. This site makes me feel blessed that I’ve never encountered anything beyond “What lol she’s a chick? She must be bad!” stuff. :/

I feel like that is part of the problem. full disclosure I’m a guy and I get a lot of hateful things said over live and I feel the same way you do I really don’t want to play on live and have to deal with getting called a “faggot” or things like that. 

The last time I ventured into XBL, it was for a game of Catan.  I made a move and promptly got cussed at for 10 minutes by one opponent who didn’t like it.  Then he quit and rated me as “unsportsmanlike”.  

So I don’t really blame you.

And in reality, THAT is precisely why FUoS is important. Lots of publishers are relying on gamers to play their games online — for subscription costs, encouraging DLC, and to reinforce the value of multiplayer features. The fact that lots of gamers feel that these spaces are hostile is a problem, and it’s a problem that devs need to solve. Not just ethically (though I think there’s an obligation there, too) but financially, in order to properly feed the online gaming that they are trying to promote.

It’s also important as a gamer who DOES play online to be clear to your fellows that this behavior isn’t ok.

I’m a guy, and I’ve gotten sodomy laced messages such as this over Xbox Live. One guy decided to label me as unsportsman like in a game of zombies because my connection got hosed. I sent them a message apologizing as it booted everyone, but i got called a faggot and he left some detail as how he would like to shove various objects in my behind. I miss the days of playing on a N64 with friends, where if someone took stuff too far you simply removed them from the premises.

Considering some of the content I see on here, I got off easy with an “unsportsmanlike”.  But yeah, since I rarely play online my XBL rating is now like 2 stars – not enough play to balance out that one ding.  

I returned the favor and rated him the same, but still.

 I honestly have no clue what my rating is ^^ I guess I just don’t take any notice of that stuff.

Aw, if you stay away from XBL then the trolls win.  They say things that can be hard to hear, but, in the end, only real power they have is what you give them.  Still, I don’t blame you for not wanting to brave the wilds.

I’ve gotten this before. I believe my response was, “My ass will devour your soul.” Then I kept playing.

I bet it can be annoying as a girl tho.

this kind of people should punished.the administration should take step against this kind of harassment.
