Ooh! I think I just got a sense of my White Male Privilege– I only found that hilariously novel!

Also, the logic isn’t quite there…. she’s white trash, but she can become less trashy if she has sex with her brother?

I don’t think incest is going to class up anyone!

It’s not racism – racism = prejudice + power. Racism against White people doesn’t exist (though prejudice does).

“Racism against White people doesn’t exist (though prejudice does).”
Even if a white person wanders into Somalia by their self?  ”Stand clear, pirates before I use my powers of whiteness to crush you!”  Do you think white privilege carries that much weight?

And power is a pretty relative thing.  If a white person wanders into an American community of prejudiced non-whites, wouldn’t the white be then capable of being the victim of racism?

I read a bit of your site before coming back to comment here.  Your definition of racism you quote, you say, comes from Sociology 101. Could you please cite the text book in which it came?

I have heard it said before that racism is the intentional practice of using collective power (government, church groups, whatever) to oppress a people for their race.  So that would make what is typically deemed racist statements, just shitty things to say.  Though it could be argued that the racially-charged negative statements are designed to wear at the psyche of the race a racist would like to oppress, making it racist statements, as they contribute to racist goals.

If you look at the Wikipedia entry for racism, you can different definitions of racism.  There’s even a nod to a definition similar to yours where they specifically call out white-folk.  I will also imagine that the use of “white” is about relating it to the current social climate, rather than making the absurdly useless assertion that only white people are genetically capable of racism.

I mean, what is the point of having a definition of racism where only white people are capable of being racist?  I only see it as a way to inflame white-folk.  How does that help you?  How does pissing off those in power get you what you want?  Am I assuming more than I should when I think that you want an end to racism?  As far as I can tell, all you do is help entrench racist attitudes.  And if that doesn’t make you a racist, then whatever it is you are, you’re just as bad as the racists.

You swing at shadows and call them demons.  I get the feeling that you’re the type of person who gets off on telling themselves how good of a demon-fighter they are.  If you get to the point where you’re ready to rejoin reality, we can use all the help we can get fighting actual racism.
