PAX Prime Panel

FUoS is going to be presenting a panel at PAX! AAAAHHHHH!!!!

Yes, we’ll be going through some of the horrific/hilarious (horrarious!) things that gamers say to each other. We’ll also actually talk like real people for a while and discuss some of the issues with harassment in online gaming. Come laugh with us in person! Laughing at us is also okay.

I guess. :(

Man, why you gotta be like that.

See you at PAX!! <3

Damnit! The one year I’m not able to go to PAX West and you’re going to be holding a panel? Seriously?! I hope you’ll have one next year as well! I’m going to that one for sure. :)

Dang. Wont be there this year. Hopefully you folks will still be around next year as I’d really like to see what you folks have to say in person, as well as the community response.

Any chance you might record it and put it up for all to see/hear?

aww, adorable. I’m sure you’ll be just fine. :D
Is a PAX panel like an interview or something? Or is it like a booth-in-an-exhibition thing?

  • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

It’s basically an hour to talk to an audience & do a Q&A.

Any chance you might record it and put it up for all to see/hear?

    We’re definitely going to try!

Also, I wonder if the Dickwolves will come up… Or if it can somehow avoid being brought up.  Hrm…

I didn’t know PAX was being held in a kitchen!

    I kid.

Ahh, so it’s kind of like a presentation/seminar. Well, that’s even better then, ’cause you’ll be in control of the talk in front of adoring fans most likely.

I mean at the panel, of course.  Might be something worth planning for.

I know that at a previous PAX lady-folk canceled (or at least threatened to cancel) their panels because of how the whole thing played out.  There are women in the gaming community that feel like the Penny Arcade guys support a rape culture and enable a hostile environment for women.  As a group which is ostensibly all for neutralizing the hostilities towards women, I think it’s sensible for people to look towards FUoS for an opinion on the controversy… And perhaps even leadership.I didn’t learn of the Dickwolves controversy until way after the fact.  Actually, it was from a commenter on this site.  Still, I don’t think the responsible approach is to ignore it and hope it doesn’t come up.  I worry that if the panel is caught with it’s pants down, it could hurt the reputation and growing authority of this site.

FUoS could take the stance that FUoS is (in part) about finding humor in the horrible, and that FUoS understands and appreciates the original jokes for what they were and is disappointed in the escalating clusterfuck that followed.

FUoS could take the stance that it doesn’t at all approve of Penny Arcade’s attitude, but feels as though the panel, much like the FUoS site itself, can exist as an impervious bubble of positive change in a hostile sea.

But maybe FUoS will feel as though they would be hypocritical to participate in an event that supports a misogynistic force in the gaming culture.

I just really think it would be prudent for FUoS to research the debacle and to search their feelings on it.  Personally, I’m very interested in knowing FUoS’s opinion on the matter.  I feel like I can’t really get enough information to have a strong stance, but I think FUoS is in a much better position to do so.

Well, I’ve taken a look at the dickwolves controversy just now (yeah I’m slow but thanks for bringing it up), and learned a few things by reading the responses from different people… I don’t understand though, why do you specifically want to know what this particular site’s stance is on that particular incident? What sort of information you don’t think you can get, but somehow FUoS can get? You’re all on the internet, aren’t you?

Btw, why did that make PA particularly misogynistic? The character depicted in the original comic strip was supposed to be male, wasn’t it?

Ogre, I assure you we’re deeply aware of the topic and have varied and nuanced opinions on it. This is not the place to discuss it. Thanks.

    Fair enough.

Sounds like this will be one of the better panels at PAX anyways!! Nicely done and congrats!!

I don’t mean to ignore you, but the mod’s don’t want it discussed here. I don’t see a private message function of Disqus.  Is there a way I can contact you?
