Phase One: Accept Friend Request

GroovyLake illustrates why I have such trouble watching ‘uncomfortable’ comedies.

Was he “for real”? He’s so disillusioned. Creeper…

Painful. I’m so glad United 91 was there to keep this guy in check. If he hadn’t been in the party things might have gotten ugly. >.>

I feel so sorry for this poor guy =/

Any inkling I had of feeling sorry for him went away at about 6:40.

Youch. That hurt to even listen to.

To be fair, he sounded less creepy and more just inexperienced and desperate, and he did admit that he was inexperienced. At least he was just overly pushy and forceful instead of being really creepy.

I’m surprised that our submitter sounds surprised by this interaction. Most of my female friends have run into this exact conversation at least 12 times. Even though it’s annoying, at least it’s just annoying and not disturbing or really unsettling.

    He sounds gay though.

Oh my god, that hurt to watch.  I’m embarrassed for my species.  I’ll see a dog eating it’s own crap and I’ll worry that it’s judging me based on what GroovyLake just did.

In a way, I can empathize, though.  I can imagine that he’s too chicken to have ever really show his interest in a girl.  So he finally psyches himself up, decides he can’t be a coward– not to let up, to be confident!  And then uses the cyber-buffer of Xbox Live to give a boost to his courage.
The expected performance anxiety immediately pops up and inside your own head, it feels like you’re crashing and burning.  In most cases, with performance anxiety, it really is just in your own head and as long as you can push through that, you’ll end up being fine.

I would have liked to see United 91 be a bro and put GroovyLake out of his misery much earlier.

I like how the logic about respecting ‘her wishes now’ is able to stop
him for a full three seconds before he again casts reason aside and
    continues. “Forward, the Light Brigade!”

Also, what’s United 91 say at around 6:55, it sounds like ‘bon bon’ or ‘fun bun’… something like that?  Is that vernacular I’m not familiar with or maybe just hearing it wrong?

Hahaha… “You can’t turn me down because you don’t know me.” That’s WHY she turned him down!

At least they both were civil about it, lol. The guy knew he’d botched it about halfway through, but no obvious safe exit was in sight, so he kinda have to soldier on until something happened… The girl was polite about handing out the rejection, which was kind of her, and she didn’t ridicule the advance too much afterwards. I’ve been to both ends of the rejection street, so I can sort of relate to both of them in that situation.

There are some people who need to be put down.

I freakin’ love her accent. It makes every sassy comment so much more so.
Also, the dude giggling in the background for a good chunk of it is funny.
But why would you try to date someone you don’t know, or haven’t seen, over Xbox Live? :S

The fact he has never spoken to her before, that he asked her out without even having seen her, that he goes on and on with trying to convince her, and that he pushes on and on with such desperation = really creepy!

I smell an elaborate troll, I think I heard him almost cracking up at a few points. Normal shy people (i.e. people who can’t date IRL) are not just that pushy.

    or perhaps I don’t know Americans enough…

Based on his voice, Im gonna say feelin his liquid courage. I know many a drunk who think they are debating kings once they hit their magic drink quota and will stay this pushy. I kinda feel for the kid, but he needed to stop while he was ahead.

Some people just don’t know when to give up. I mean, this kid is 19 years old and probably hasn’t seen the light of day for about 14 years. I have never seen such a socially inept retard in my entire life. No way he’s trolling. Even trolls can’t be this beta.

such an obvious troll I cant believe almost everyone has fallen for it

How are you supposed to impress a girl on xbox live if you haven’t even read her bio?

  • http://www.facebook.com/KaoriTenshi Kaitlyn Stankiewicz

omgg o.o thats so creepy im just like whoaaaa.

  • zimsponge

You gotta give him the award of not giving up… huh??, Tigerlily made me laugh a few times but not to the extent of Groovylake.

  • Michelle Mohan

    He sounds really drunk.

  • http://blogs.got-rave.com/sputter sputtertoo

I knew I couldn’t be the only one to think that!

  • http://www.lucidfanart.com Dee

lol. The guy is creepy but best solution cut them off and say “sorry no!” Letting it linger seems cruel and he’s getting negative attention, which to him is attention regardless. But I love ‘United 91′s’ reactions! lol.

Do you all think that it is funny to laugh at someone who is clearly mentally disabled? That boy has cerebral palsy and you are all putting him on a podium to laugh at him.
Girl in the video is mean.

Bleeding hell, mate – the progression of courtship MIGHT indicate that traveling halfway across the world and staying with a girl you know nothing at all about, and exchanging meetings of parents, should be reserved for, I don’t know, maybe the SECOND conversation?  The inclusion of the phrase “in real life” (~7:36) reveals how disconnected this guy (and many, many, many others like him) really are.

This is exactly why I don’t engage in conversations while playing – silence seems to be the best option when dealing with the assorted morons out there. If that doesn’t work, I hear an arrow to the knee is rather effective…
